FATHER AND SON CONTINUED

 

A Father & Son initiation is an experience that is still talked about for years afterwards.“Do you remember Dad?”; "I used to be with my dad…." Anchor points are set. In the photo above you see father and son working together on their self-designed family crest.  An heirloom that will hopefully be passed on in the family for a long time to come.

 

The son must become increasingly self-reliant. To see how far he has come, the son organizes the groceries for the week (20€ per person) and helps prepare the meals. He is put in charge of the kitchen to practice good leadership. (Also leadership over oneself.)

 

During the adventurous forest tour we explore the initiation area: called The Ritual Space. The son learns to make a fire and is told what is expected during the 24 hours in the Wolf Valley. Optionally, father can spend the night in the Wolf Valley (for boys up to 18 years old).

 

Depending on weather conditions and needs, we will cut down a tree or build a boat and visit the hermitage (I'll tell you why...) Between the activities there is room to look at one of the men's books, take a nap in the hammock or kick a ball.

Of course we have the necessary conversations with each other about being a man and what it entails. I introduce some themes around a campfire.

After returning from the Wolf Valley, there is a fire of honor with ritual at the end.
