Initiatie-school
Educational Center 'De Natuure Tijd' has an Initiation school as part of it.
As can be read in the brief article on the history of initiations, the Romans structurally undermined initiation in the adulthood of Europeans.(See >INITIATIONS >Which initiation suits you?) The phenomenon of the Initiation School stopped with the Ancient Greeks and we have picked up that thread again, in a process to give initiation in adulthood a place in our culture again.
INITIATIONS
Anyone who is away from their familiar home for a period of time will encounter and get to know themselves during such an experience. Our Initiation School not only offers cognitive subjects and practical education, but also guides young people on the path of psychological and emotional maturity. One of our inspirations is the Australian Dr. Arne Rubinstein, who provides insight into the differences between child and adult psychology and the importance of initiation.
An initiation is a process that involves intensive personal guidance, which means there is only room for a few students in the same period.
Internal students are as self-reliant as possible here. In principle, they sleep in their own tent or a school tent (unless otherwise agreed and our rental properties are used). They do their own shopping, cook their own food, wash their clothes and maintain their shelter.
SCHOOL CONTENT
The photos on this site show that Natural Time and the surrounding forests are a super inspiring and fascinating place that has an effect on deeper layers of the student. Nature and 'being contemplative' are great teachers here. In addition, we offer young people a huge range of opportunities to discover their passions. Maybe it's bricklaying? Or blacksmithing, woodworking or gardening? Cooking, a language or something with art? Music, drawing or nature educational walks? Philosophy, citizenship, hand tools, hospitality (and more…) Or all of them?
The cognitive subjects to be followed are determined with the school of registration coordinated and always aim to guide the student as much as possible towards a suitable outflow perspective. At least the core subjects and citizenship skills are supported by attention to personal development through an ILP (individual learning plan), lifestyle and other supporting materials. In addition to these subjects, there is room for other desirable subjects.
After each school day there is a Day Reflection, where we look back on the day and ask ourselves what - in retrospect - we learned and would have done, said or thought differently if we could do the day over again. This gives students an idea of who they have been and who they want to be. The goals that emerge to become the best version of themselves are of course extra supported and encouraged by the teachers. Goals are also set each quarter under supervision, which are discussed in the reflections and at other times.
Theme evenings are organized where themes related to growing up are discussed. The students can also introduce themes. There are also theme books available.
To conclude a student's stay, there is the Rite of Passage in the Wolf Valley, where they are silent for 24 hours and perform a number of assignments and rituals related to their leap into adulthood. Finally, there is the honorary fire and the presentation of the certificates and proofs of competence obtained.
If education is intended to make young people mature and self-reliant, then an Initiation School
In our opinion, an indispensable piece of the puzzle in that process.

Indi Hondema is a teacher, children's interpreter and active in the problems of 'those at home' with her ACT initiative. People person who lovingly brings out the bottom.
CUSTOMIZED
Depending on the needs and capabilities of the student, it is common to take half a day of cognitive lessons and half a day of practical experience. The young person's program depends on his/her outflow perspective, desired development and whether the young person has a prior need for care or education. We agree on the content and distribution in close consultation with the school and caregivers involved. Where possible, we also try to find a suitable internship for the student.
We look together at the desired form for the young person, but recommend a minimum stay of one quarter. During this period we will discuss the remainder of your stay together. The periods are preferably the seasons Spring, Summer and Autumn. We are available for students from the region throughout the school year. Staying at our place is not yet possible in winter.
